1 About Exams

In general, exams will contain three kinds of questions: short answer (e.g., true-false, multiple choice, matching, fill in the blank) questions, essay questions, and calculation questions. Questions may be taken from the reading, even if the material was not discussed in class.

Note that you will not be allowed to use a calculator/computer during exams. (All calculations will be simple enough to perform "by hand".)

You will, however, be given a reference card (on the day of the exam) that contains important notation and results. They will be like the following:

Note that the answers to the sample questions will not be made available. This is to help you avoid focusing too much attention on the specifics of these questions. Instead, you should try and answer different variants of each question. Then you should discuss the questions and answers with other students enrolled in the course.
