Women In Technology

JMU D.I.G.I.T.A.L

DIGITAL stands for Dukes Inspiring Girls Into Technology Across Limits. It is an annual program run by Women in Technology that invites young girls from the Harrisonburg school system to come to JMU to learn about technology. Since technological careers are still highly dominated by men it is important to show young women the possibilities for them in these careers and to encourage them to pursue a career in technology.

This past year DIGITAL took place on December 9th 2017. The three stations included a One Hour of Code lab, a Finch Robot lab, and a Arduino lab. We also had drone races and Chibitronics in between sessions. We also had a panel of previous and current WIT members so the girls could ask any questions they had. After lunch the participants could return to the station that interested them the most and work on a project. There were many fun interesting things for these young women to learn about at DIGITAL and we continue to grow and improve the program each year.
