Kevin Molloy

Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science

My research interests focus on studying biomolecules and the complex relationship between amino acid sequence, three dimensional structure, and function. This research involves developing and utilizing existing algorithms in the fields of AI, machine learning and robotics. I enjoy teaching in all of these fields and also in our department's intro to programming sequence.

Current Students

Endre Szakal

I am a Junior Computer Science student at JMU conducting undergraduate research with Dr. Molloy and Dr. Bowers. I am building new structural libraries using both experimental and computationally determined structures. These libraries can be used to study protein function and classification. I enjoy learning about web development, computer graphics, programming languages, data science, and simulation algorithms. During my free time, I cook, play video games, and knit. I am also the president of JMU's breakdance club, Kinetix!

Sanda Thura

I am a Senior CS undergraduate at JMU.
I am researching the SARS-2-Cov spike protein by modeling the structural impact of mutations.

Emma Macaluso

I am a Junior CS undergraduate at JMU. I enjoy rock climbing and love to read and write!
I am researching how to utilize and adapt algorithms to characterize protein systems as part of my honor's thesis work here at JMU.

Carley Belknap

I am a senior at JMU majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Environmental Information Systems. I love working on interdisciplinary problems that have a real-world impact and require creative solutions. I'm conducting research with Dr. Molloy and Dr. Bowers to identify and study the biological impacts of future mutations on SARS-2-CoV spike proteins using machine learning and artificial intelligence. I'm very involved in the computer science department through the Unix Users Group club, the Upsilon Pi Epsilon honor society, the CS Ambassador program, and as a student member of the CS Department's Faculty Search Committee. Outside of my studies at JMU, I'm also a cymbal player with the George Mason University Indoor Drumline and the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps.
