Using Headsets Outside of Class

When not in use, the headsets are kept in King 140, the student research room. All CS majors should have swipe access to the room using your JACard. We have six Meta Quest 2 headsets, numbered 1-6. They are kept in gray tubs and stored in the corner.

Note: Do NOT take the headsets/accessories outside of King 140!

The headsets, controllers, other accessories, and boxes should remain in King 140 at all times.

Storage rules:

  • Make sure to put the headset, controllers, and any accessories you use back in their box. Each headset/controller/box is numbered. Boxes should contain:
    • (1) Meta Quest 2 headset
    • (2) Quest touch controllers (L & R)
    • (1) USB-C to USB-C cable
    • (1) USB Type A to USB-C adapter
    • (1) USB-C charging block (this may be plugged into the power strip instead)
  • Turn the headset off when not in use. You can hold the power button on the side until you hear a shutdown noise.
  • Keep the headset charged above 60%. If below that, use only the provided cable and charging block to charge the headset.
    • You may find the charging blocks plugged into a power strip near the gray tubs.
  • If you see that a headset is plugged in and fully charged (green light on the side), unplug it and put it back in the box.
  • Store the boxes inside the gray tub when not in use or charging.

Usage rules:

  • You may use the headsets freely for development and testing.
  • If there are others waiting to use the headset, make sure you share.
  • Please do not download apps from the app store! This keeps them from getting cluttered and full.
  • You can play with any apps that are already installed, including the activities from class.
    • I may install some demos later in the course so you can have some fun 😉.
  • If the controllers run out of power, one of the tubs should have spare AA batteries in it.
  • Please use the sanitizing wipes to gently wipe down the face cushion and the controllers.
    • Avoid touching the lenses to keep them from smudging!
  • Please do not change any of the settings on the headset unless instructed.
    • For instance, you will need to change the camera recording settings for the homework.
  • If the Wi-Fi gets logged out, you can connect to JMU-Official-Wireless:
    • Security: WPA/WPA2/WPA3-Enterprise, EAP method: MSCHAPV2, Certificate CA: Use system certificates, Domain: jmu.edu, Identity: <Your EID>, Anonymous identity: leave blank, Password: <Your password>
