Setup Checklist for the Hybrid Classroom

This checklist contains the steps that need to be taken to setup CS/ISAT 150 as a hybrid classroom using an "external" laptop.

This process only works with the laptop connected to the "front" projector (i.e., the projector that is facing the narrow wall). The camera must be pointed towards the "front" wall and the lecture must be delivered from the "front" wall.

1. Connect the "external" hardware.
1.1. Turn on the transmitter connected to the wireless microphone.
1.2. Connect the laptop to the Internet.
1.3. Connect the laptop to the projector (using either an HDMI or VGA cable).
1.4. Start the "front" projector using the keypad on the "front" wall.


2. Start the "internal" hardware.
2.1. Start the projector on the "side" wall (i.e., the projector facing the long wall) using the keypad on the "side" wall.
2.2. If the computer does not respond, start/wake it (by pushing the power button on the unit itself).


3. Go to the JMU WebEx portal on the "internal" computer.
3.1. Start a WWW browser.
3.2. Go to jmu.webex.com.
3.3. Click on Log In.
3.4. Enter your "Username" and "Password" and click on Log In.


4. Host a meeting on the "internal" computer.
4.1. Click on Meeting Center and expand "Host a Meeting" if necessary.
4.2. Click on Meet Now. If the Meeting Center Application is installed it will start running. If not, you will be asked to install it. Since you don't have the privileges to do so, click on the X and then click on "Run a temporary application".


5. Make an audio connection on the "internal" computer.
5.1. Click on ... under "Connect to Audio" and click on "Test Computer Audio".
5.2. In the "Microphone" field select "Line In".
5.3. Click on OK.


6. Make a video connection on the "internal" computer.
6.1. In the "Participants" panel, click on the camera icon.
6.2. Click on OK.


7. Share content from the "external" laptop.
7.1. Start a WWW browser on the laptop.
7.2. Go to jmu.webex.com.
7.3. Click on Home (do not log in!).
7.4. Enter your username (since you are hosting the meeting on the "internal" computer) and click on Join.
7.5. Enter "Content" as your name, a fake email address, and click on Join. This will start the Meeting Center Application.
7.6. Click on ... (or More) under "Share ____".
7.7. Select either "Share My Screen" (which will share every window) or a particular application (which will share only the windows associated with that application).


8. Record the session using the "internal" computer.
8.1. Click on Record.
8.2. Confirm that the "Recording" message/icon has appeared.
