zmedia

zmedia is one of several fictitious companies created by Prof. David Bernstein, now a member of the Computer Science Department at James Madison University .

1 About the Company

zmedia is a full-service "new media" company that develops content, protocols, and software. They have a multi-disciplinary team that can satisfy all of your "new media" needs.

1.1 The Content Division

The content division is currently developing the following products:

animationz are instances of dynamic visual content in which the apparent motion is described rather than sampled (i.e., there aren't pre-existing frames).
bookz are instances of static visual content that is presented using either sampled or described fonts.
filmz are instance of dynamic visual content in which the apparent motion is a result of the presentation of a sequence of pieces of visual content (i.e., in which there are pre-existing sampled frames).
songz are instances of auditory content. Some songz are sampled sampled and some are described.

1.2 The Applications Division

The applications division develops software targeted at both producers and consumers of content. The applications division is currently working on the following products:

zcalc is an application that can be used to perform media-related calculations of various kinds (e.g., unit conversions, aspect ratio calculations, frequency calculations).
zplayer is an application that presents content (e.g., animationz, bookz, filmz, songz) to users.
zview is a scalar vector graphics (SVG) file viewer.
The Bi gPixel is a drawing program that limits the things that the user can do in an attempt to stretch the user's creativity.

1.3 The Utilities Division

The utilities division develops protocols and libraries that can be used by both zmedia and other companies to create media applications of various kinds. The utilities division is currently working on the following products:

protocolz is a set of communications protocols that describe the process that can be used to transmit animationz, bookz, filmz, and songz over various communications channels.
toolz for SVG is a library for working with Scalar Vector Graphic (SVG) files.
toolz for numberz is a a flexible library for working with measurements of various kinds (e.g., percentages, lengths, weights, time).

2 About the Name and Logo(s)

A "new media" company, zmedia is, naturally, on the cutting edge, both socially and technologically. Hence, it is not surprising that the company name, product names, and logos are also on the cutting edge. This explains the extensive use of the letter "z", lower-case letters, and the colors red and black.
