Mission Statement: TradeShow

Introduction

The Great DVD's in-airport stores are doing very well. However, several customers have said that they often do not rent enough movies to keep them busy for the entire flight (sometimes because they do not like a movie and stop watching it). TradeShow is a system that allows passegers on a commercial flight to trade DVD movies.

The system gets its name from the word "trade-show" which, in the film industry, is a private showing of a new film to the trade (before release).

Passengers to inform other passengers (on a particular flight) on when they will be done watching a movie.
People to be informed about when movies will be completed.
Passengers to inform other passengers (on a particular flight) about movies that she/he is done with.
Passengers to be informed about movies that are now available (on a particular flight).

Our preliminary research indicates that there are several companies discussing such products but that they are not very far along in the design and development process.

and that device will be equipped with a Java chip. In addition, we have marketing arrangements with several smartphone manufacturers and DVD/BluRay player manufacturers, all of which are focusing on Java-powered devices. Hence, the initial version of TradeShow must be developed in Java.

All of these devices support both TCP and UDP over a medium-range wireless communications channel.

In addition, TradeShow must be flexible. In particular, in the future we may want to eliminate the "drop box" and have passengers exchange movies directly.
