Mission Statement:
GateRate
Introduction
Though our in-airport stores are doing very well, several customers have
said that they would like to be able to reserve movies on-line and
pick them up at the gate just before they board. The objective of
GateRate is to provide our customers with this service.
Vision
GateRate will allow us to:
-
Give our customers the ability to search for and
reserve movies on-line.
-
Give our customers the ability to pick-up and drop-off movies at
the gate.
-
Provide discounts based on the number of copies of a movie
available at different airports.
Target Market
We anticipate that GateRate will be a mass-market
product, of most interest intitally to frequent fliers. We expect that,
ultimately, the market for GateRate will be larger than
the market for our in-airport stores.
Our preliminary research indicates that there are several
companies discussing such products but that they are not very far
along in the design and development process.
Constraints
The GateRate vending machines have already been designed
and are currently being constructed. An example is shown below:
These machines are equipped with a "Java chip", hence
GateRate must be developed in Java.
These machines support both TCP and UDP over a short-range (i.e., 1 meter)
wireless communications channel.
Business Requirements
GateRate must be flexible and must, wherever possible, use
existing protocols.
