In the table below are a collection of files containing BWCA map images, portage data, and campsite data. Many of the files are quite large so if your connection is a 56K modem or slower, they will take a long time to download.
Campsite and portage data originated from Peter Berbee. Campsite and portage data in the other image and data files was derived from the data in bwcaw01.zip.

The images were created by merging the USGS topo maps (around 70 of them) that cover the BWCA. The various USGS maps used on this site were obtained from the State of Minnesota's "Data Deli". Various resolution/scale combinations are provided since different needs require different compromises between precision and the size of the map file generated. Depending on the type of hardware you have and the software you are using, performance with the larger images may be sluggish if it works at all. I have had good result using these images in OziExplorer.
|bwcaw01.zip||-||Campsite and portage information for BWCA as obtained from Berbee.|
|362KB to 1.9Mb||Portage tracks for all of BWCA in OziExplorer track file (.plt) format and various Mapsource formats.|
|344KB to 2.4Mb||Waypoint listing of all BWCA campsites and portage endpoints. The info is provided various Mapsource formats and in OziExplorer waypoint file (.wpt) format. The 4000+ waypoints exceeds the capacity of many GPS units. Oziexplorer versions prior to version 3.95.4 cannot handle this many waypoints. Since this file is in text format, even those without OziExplorer can access the GPS information in this file.|
|bwca,fw-usgs24-330p-m.png (far west)||22MB||Four overlapping maps, with campsite and portage symbols superimposed. The maps were made from 300 DPI (dots per inch) USGS 1:24000 topo maps. To get the image size down to 10-25MB, the resolution was reduced to 125 DPI yielding a map with 330 PPM (pixels per mile). While there is some sacrifice in image quality, the maps are still quite good.|
|bwca,mw-usgs24-330p-m.png (mid west)||21MB|
|bwca,me-usgs24-330p-m.png (mid east)||18MB|
|bwca,fe-usgs24-330p-m.png (far east)||12MB|
|17MB||The image covers all of the BWCA made from USGS 1:100000 topo maps. The zip file contains the image file plus the ".map" and ".JPR" calibration files to use the image in Oziexplorer or MemoryMap.|
|bwca-usgs24-330p.zip||125MB||The zip file contains an image covering all of the BWCA made from USGS 1:24000 topo maps, four overlapping images each covering about one-third of BWCA, plus the ".map" and ".JPR" calibration files to use the images in Oziexplorer or MemoryMap. The resolution was reduced from 300 DPI to 125 DPI (330 PPM) so the image quality is slightly reduced. The map covering all of BWCA is over 39000 pixels wide which is beyond the capabilities of many paint programs. The four overlapping images are the same as those listed above exept without the portage and campsite information super-imposed.|
|bwca-usgs24-660p.zip||146MB||The zip file contains an image covering all of the BWCA made from USGS 1:24000 topo maps, five overlapping images each covering about one-third of BWCA, plus the ".map" and ".JPR" calibration files to use the images in Oziexplorer or MemoryMap. The resolution was reduced from 300 DPI to 250 DPI (660 PPM) but there is almost no loss of image quality.|
|bwca-usgs24-792p.zip||150MB||A collection of the 70 or so USGS 24000:1 maps that cover BWCA.|
